Project 365

I heard about Project 365 some time ago and ever since then I've been wanting to give it a try. The concept is a simple one, take and post one picture every day for 365 days. It becomes a visual diary of one year of your life. I'm told it makes you a better photographer as you strive to find something interesting to photograph every day. Sounds good to me!

The key to this project is to keep doing it every day. There will be days when I'm busy, days when I'm tired, days when I just don't want to be bothered. I'm going to try to snap a picture anyway. I may not post the photos each day, in fact I think once the novelty wears off it will probably be more like once a week or so. But hopefully I'll be able to take a photograph every day. It will give me a good excuse to play with my new camera and try out the fun features. And when I've completed 365 days, I may just make a book of it!

And just to add a challenge to my project, I'm going to try to include one photo each week that fits with the DPS weekly themes.

So, want to see where life takes me this year? Tune in! (And don't hesitate to leave me some words of encouragement now and then!) You'll find my Project 365 at Photography Gene.

Care to join me in a Project 365 of your own? Leave me a link to your project in the comments below! TK, what about you? (She and I just recently got the same camera, a Canon of course! ;-)

I've been wanting to do this for a while now. I'll definitely be following your new blog. Who knows, maybe I'll even join you.

  3. Great idea! I love the ducks. Lovely photo of a day to day moment. Sometimes we get caught up in our too busy lives to enjoy the beautiful simplicity of the ordinary.

    Thank you!

  4. My blog, Reflection's Flora and Fauna is a 365, with only flowers, and critters. I try to limit the amount of words, let the photos speak for themselves. It can be found here:

It is a challenge. I have dipped into the archives. I do think I take photos differently now, hopefully better! :-)

    I'll be reading!

  5. Jasia,
I have started this concept a couple of different times---not knowing much about it. The first time I had over a 3 month collection ---and I go back to that series periodically --- such a visual recapture of a time and place. Then life overwhelmed me. The second time, I had technical problems and got sidetracked.

Now that I am surrounded by camera people, perhaps it's time again. We'll see --- Just added my camera to my road trip stuff for today.

  7. I found out about this project last year and decided to post a photo a week on Wordless Wednesday since I knew I wouldn't be able to pull off a photo a day (even though I would love to!)

I'm checking out the DPS weekly themes. Thanks for the link.

I'm adding your new blog to my feed and Jennifer's too. I already subscribe to Reflection's Flora and Fauna (it's one of my favorites). I agree with Carol, I think I take pictures differently now, hopefully better and I'm definitely becoming more familiar with my camera (also a Canon).

Once I get a certain high school child graduated, I may take the plunge and start a separate photo blog until then you can see my weekly photo on Wordless Wednesdays at http://turning-of-generations.blogspot.com/

    I love photography!!

  8. Hmm, interesting idea. Some year I'd like to try this, but I'll probably wait until I get a higher quality camera. This year I'll follow your blog to see how it comes out.

  9. I have been a devotee for the past 3 years and have good weeks and not so ones. Since I already carry the camera everywhere between genealogy and my daughter's last few year's at home, it was an easy fit. Sometimes they are those beautiful, proud to put in a magazine shots. But I am trying to catch real life too- when the laundry is piled or my daughter just tried cooking a new adventure on the stove. Some weeks the theme as to do with a favorite, like "favorite tv shows, music, books, etc.

Glad to know there are other genealogists out there with me.

  12. Just like everything in life, improvement comes with practice. The idea of a photo a day is a great way to discipline oneself to get out with that camera and practice -- and for sure anyone who does this will become a better photographer! That said, I'm not sure I can commit to this as I'm still trying to get a jump on my blog and the discipline that requires. But I'd love to try. Maybe in a month or so. Thanks for the idea!

  14. Aw, Jasia, see how I am? It took me this long to get around to blog-reading, and I have to tell you, I have not even charged up the battery for my new camera yet. Blurb, Blurb, Blurb... I am one-dimensional these days. Somebody, make me stop and smell the camera box!

  15. Tsk, tsk, tsk, T.K.! That new camera will get rusty on you if you don't give it some love and play with it soon! ;-)

I'm happy to hear you're still working away on those books of yours. Can't wait to see what you're creating! Sadly, I haven't worked on any books lately. It's on my to-do list but not in the immediate future.

I'm having lots of fun with Project 365 and learning more and more about my new camera. You're gonna love it when you get around to opening that box, lol!
