Thanksgiving Wishes for You

I want to take a moment to wish all my online friends a Happy Thanksgiving!

This has been a difficult (sad) week for me. I've been thinking about my mom a lot, and missing her. I just haven't felt like blogging even though I have some wonderful things to share with you. Today went better than I thought it would. Now that it's behind me I'll be focusing on Christmas. Starting with tonight! I'm one of those crazy people who climb out of bed in the wee hours of the morning to get a good spot in line to grab some of those "Black Friday" shopping deals. I love the holiday hustle and bustle that other people groan about. I'm a certifiable shopaholic ;-)

The day was overcast and cold but the sun peaked out for just a moment...
The first Thanksgiving dinner we went to was at my brother's house. I brought the appetizer... Pizza Dip.
The second Thanksgiving dinner we went to was at my in-law's house. I brought dessert... pumpkin pie (my mom's recipe).
By the time we got home this evening a light dusting of snow had fallen, the first of the season.

As usual, I ate too much. But everything was so good!

And now I have to tackle the sale ads to make my shopping list. Some of the malls around here will be opening at midnight for all-night sales. I won't be going to those. In fact, since I've already done some of my shopping I can probably sleep in till 4am or 5am.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving Day! See ya at the mall!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm sorry you were missing your Mom and glad your day went OK.

I used to get up at my normal time to hit the early sales but I've decided this year to sleep in. Have fun!

  2. We missed my uncle who died earlier in the week today. Rather than cooking today (the family get-together will be Saturday), we went to a local restaurant. One of the desserts was a chocolate pie, and as I ate a small bit of it, I couldn't help but think of how much my uncle would have enjoyed that. He and I shared a weakness for dark chocolate! (We blame it on our Swiss heritage.)

  3. Happy Thanksgiving! It's not really celebrated over here. The food looks delicious! Enjoy your shopping and think of me while I slave away at work (OK, so I'm not that busy today, but I wish I had a day off!).

  4. More power to you Jasia! Sure, I was up at 3:30 am this morning, with no thoughts of freezing in 24F degree weather here in Chicago. But hey, someone has to jump start the economy right! I hope you find some great stuff and at killer prices.

Missing people is part of holidays. I missed my mom as well yesterday, especially when I tasted the stuffing (I used her recipe). I called her at the nursing home but she really didn't know it was Thanksgiving.

One thing we've done for holiday dinners: we take photos of our loved ones who have gone on and put them on the buffet where some of the food items are. That way when people go to get something, they stop and look, think and remember.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving, Jasia! I'm thankful that you write so many wonderfully interesting and readable things on all sorts of topics. Don't get lostin the shopping rush!

  6. Jasia,

I understand how you feel. I lost my mom in March of this year, and my twin sister the year before. We went out to a restaurant for dinner, but since my husband misses the "left-overs" I spent the day BEFORE Thanksgiving making special pies (he is a Celiac) for him, and cooking a 20 lb turkey with stuffing.

  7. I know I'm late in making my rounds but I think you of all people will understand. Thanksgiving was mine and my mom's holiday. We worked together in the kitchen like a well-oiled machine, and no matter how hard the chore, we had fun doing it together. She's been gone 5 years, and you'd think by now I'd be over it, but I'm not, and I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever enjoy Thanksgiving again.

Between that and the illnesses running through our family, I just haven't felt like writing, and I figure some things are better left unshared anyway. *smile*

And on that note... I hope you had a lovely day, and a great time shopping!
