Revolutionary War Veterans Buried in Michigan Cemeteries

Patriot games: Genealogy fans unravel past - 07/04/06 - The Detroit News Online

... a 1970s list by the Michigan Department of Education identified 185 (Revolutionary War) veterans -- presumably seniors -- who migrated to Michigan's cheap land after the war and remain in its 3,700-plus cemeteries.

In five years of research, (Gerald) Burkland said he's expanded that list by 200. The bearish man with a ready laugh estimates a total of 1,200 to 1,400 veterans are buried somewhere in Michigan.

His goal is to honor all graves with memorial markers. Only about 10 percent of the known veterans have them now, he said.
