Felician Sisters in Michigan Part 3 of 3

Here's the third part of the final article I will be presenting from Poles in Michigan, Vol.1.

Part 1 :: Part 2

The Educational Work of The Felician Sisters in Michigan, cont.

However, a most important step toward the higher education of the Sisters was made in 1937, when the Presentation Junior College was established. In May, 1947, the institution was approved as a four-year college and began to operate as Madonna College in the summer of that year. In September of the same year, the doors of Madonna College (Plymouth, Michigan) were opened not only to members of the Felician Order, but to lay students as well. The enrollment of the college for that school year 1952-1953 was four hundred forty-four. This includes the summer classes which were attended by one hundred sixty-five Sisters.

Throughout the years the Felician Sisters, invoking the blessings of St. Felix of Cantalicio in whose honor the Community was named, of St. Francis of Assisi, whose rule they profess and follow, and of the Blessed Virgin Mary, after whom each of the Sisters is named, have made remarkable progress. They have labored to develop in the boys and girls under their care a sense of personal responsibility and a true devotion to God and country. They have adapted improved methods of teaching, yet never losing sight of the main objective of the Catholic teacher - "to form Christ Himself in those regenerated by baptism."
