You will hear a collective sigh of relief among the genea-blogging community tonight as word spreads that Ancestry has announced on it's blog that it will take down the Internet Biographical Collection.
I applaud all of the genea-bloggers who weren't afraid to speak out and make their concerns known to the world. It's not always easy to take a stand and defend it. But I'm proud of each and every one of my blogging buddies who did.
I give a nod to Ancestry as well for doing the right thing in the end, if not in the beginning.
I am a bit concerned about the part of the official statement that reads... "We have decided to remove this collection and search engine from Ancestry.com for the time being." I sure hope that Ancestry doesn't try to test the waters with this nonsense ever again. We should be vigilant in monitoring their databases just to make sure.
Hat's off to you my fellow bloggers. You've earned it.
