COG 102: Call for Submissions!

Thanks to the 37 people who participated in the COG topic poll for the 102nd edition! The poll results are as follows: Annual iGene Edition (21); If My Family Were a Tree (8); Genealogy Tech Toy (8). I'm happy to see that there is still a good amount of interest in the annual iGene edition because it's one of my favorites! If you really wanted one of the other choices, don't despair. I'll let you vote on them again next month ;-)

Call for Submissions! The topic for the 102nd edition of the Carnival of Genealogy is: The Annual iGene Awards! For those not familiar with the iGene Awards, you can see the previous years here, here, and here. We'll announce our best blog posts from the previous year (in this case, 2010) in the following 5 categories: Best Picture (that would be a photograph), Best Screen Play (story you would make into a movie including the cast), Best Documentary (investigative research), Best Biography, Best Comedy. Write up a blog post with links to your best articles in these categories and submit it to the COG! Feel free to use the iGene graphic if you'd like. The deadline for submissions is February 1st.

Submit your blog article to the 102nd edition of the Carnival of Genealogy using our carnival submission form. Please use a descriptive phrase in the title of any articles you plan to submit and/or write a brief description/introduction to your articles in the "comment" box of the blog carnival submission form. This will give readers an idea of what you've written about and hopefully interest them in clicking on your link. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

Thank you! Now, write on!

  1. I missed the poll but this sounds like a great CoG topic. I vaguely remember last year's but didn't participate (because I was too new). I'll start looking at my 2010 posts. Thanks!

  2. I won't be participating this time since I really neglected my blog last year. I was hoping for a different topic. So many people had already posted their yearly recaps.

  3. Hi
I thought I had left a question, but don't see it here. Maybe I put it somewhere else? question is: are we nominating our own blogposts in these categories or someone elses? When all are submitted is there some voting that goes on -- or do we just see what each blogger felt was his/her best in each area. I'm not quite clear on how this works. Thanks for probably explaining the obvious to the newbie.

  4. Hi Linda,
We are nominating posts on our own blogs. There is no voting. It's more or less just a chance to toot our own horns about the blog posts we think are most deserving of recognition in the 5 categories in the past year.

I look forward to your COG submission!

  5. OK, I get it. Thanks. I only started in November, but I'll take a look to see if some are "worthy!" ;-)
    Thanks for doing this.

  6. Hi Jasia,
I just submitted my CoG iGene post, but because I'm new at this, could you please let me know that you rec'd it. I'll check back here. Also, when I submitted, I noticed the form said "for Feb 4th." The deadline is Feb 1, so, of course, you'd need time to sort through them all, but I want to be sure because Tuesdays are my "Travel Tuesday" posts and I'd create a special intro if CoG takes the place of a travel post. I also have my post scheduled right now for Feb 1st, but will change to the 4th if that's the date you'll be publishing the whole thing. I gather you'll just be putting the intro we write on the CoG--and then the link to each blog, where the individual posts will be. Sorry so long. Is there a better way to communicate with you if it's a question like this? Thanks a bunch! You're awesome to do all this!

  7. I sent you an email on this, Linda. Hope you got it!
