Carnival of Genealogy, 37th Edition

Welcome to the December 3, 2007 edition of the Carnival of Genealogy. The winter chill is upon us and the holidays are knocking on the door. The theme for this edition of the COG is Wish Lists! Wouldn't you like to know what other genealogists are asking Santa for this Christmas? Wishes range from the practical to the laughable and everything in between. The cold wind is blowing, the trees are barren of leaves, and old man winter is giving us a good excuse to be inside reading. So pull up a chair (and a kitty or puppy to cuddle if you've got one) and imagine what it would be like to be Santa with each genea-blogger sitting in your lap telling you what they want this year...

First on Santa's lap is Chery Kinnick sharing All I want for Christmas... posted at Nordic Blue. Chery has just one wish and it has to do with time travel. Think Santa can make her wish come true? Check it out and see what you think. I hope you get your wish, Chery! Thanks for sharing!

Next in line to see Santa is Jessica Oswalt sharing, All I Want For Christmas Is ... posted at Jessica's Genejournal. Jessica has a time-wish of a different sort along with a few other wishes to aid in her genealogy research. Here's hoping your Christmas wishes come true, Jessica. Thanks for sharing!

Patiently waiting his turn in line is Bill West sharing DEAR SANTA posted at West in New England. Bill has a time-wish too but he's also hoping for some breaks. He doesn't specify sizes or colors but he does have a couple specific walls he wants broken. I hope Santa is good to you Bill and that you find the broken walls you're hoping for under your tree on Christmas. Thanks for sharing!

Wiggling and somewhat less patient is Randy Seaver sharing Dear Genea-Santa posted at Genea-Musings. Randy put on his creative thinking cap and is hoping Santa will bring him, among other things, a special piece of software to contact dead spirits. I know, it's a bit over the top but Randy is the The Geneaholic! Thanks for sharing, Randy!

Reciting her list so she doesn't forget it, Colleen presents The Oracle of OMcHodoy: A Genealogical Christmas Wish posted at The Oracle of OMcHodoy. Colleen has some rather odd but very sincere wishes to share with Santa starting with wishing to get off her tailbone and ending with wishing for stories that include among other things, dislikes, quirks and affinities. Yes Santa, she's a little odd, but we love her anyway. Thanks for sharing, Colleen! I hope Santa is very good to you this year!

Oh, oh. Any time someone starts off with a confession we know they will need some extra help with their wish list. Terry Snyder shares A letter to Santa from the Desktop Genealogist posted at Desktop Genealogist. Well, Terry needs our help folks. Top on her list is a replacement for her digital camera that still takes floppy discs. Yeesh! We need to all put in a good word for her when we have our turn with Santa. Poor Terry. Floppy discs! Check out her other wishes and have yourself a good giggle. Thanks for sharing, Terry!

Becky Wiseman has several wishes to share with Santa including one very large one. My Genealogy Wish List is posted at kinexxions. Becky has plenty of time but wants energy to go with it. She has plenty of ancestors but wants evidence of them as well. And if that don't beat all, she wants whole-genome sequencing too. I'm thinking you better get started on Becky's wish list right away Santa. This one could take you a while... Thanks for sharing, Becky! I hope your wishes come true!

Santa, Apple has her list, Apple's Tree: Dear Santa posted at Apple's Tree. Go there and read about all the genealogy stuff she wants and please give it all to her. She's very deserving... anyone who gets up before the crack of dawn to drive a school bus in often below zero wind chills and blizzard conditions in Snowville is very deserving!!! And please don't forget Plum Lucky, the Janet Evanovich book she wants. I know it's a Valentine's Day story but that Cupid is not nearly as dependable as you are. And besides, if you can bring it to her before its release date she'll let me read it too! That Apple is a great gal! Thanks for sharing your list with us Apple. Hope the big guy in red gifts you with terabytes of hard drive space!

Nikki-ann's Christmas Wishes are posted at Nikki-ann - Journal. So Santa, check out her rather modest list and note that she too would like to do some time travel. Maybe you could come up with some travel brochures for her to choose from... Victorian era, Edwardian era, or Stonehenge era would be good places to start! Thanks for sharing your list, Nikki-ann. I hope your Christmas wishes come true!

Steve Danko says he's been good, Santa. What do you think? He's got a pretty well rounded wish list. Check it out at My Christmas Wish List for 2007 posted on Steve's Genealogy Blog. I'm sure you'll want to stop by his place and leave a little something under his tree, won't you Santa? (I know #2 is a tough one but if anyone can do it Santa, you can!)

Janice Brown, who often provides much appreciated humor to the genea-blogosphere, this time around shares her very sincere wishes in, When You Wish Upon A Gene, posted at Cow Hampshire. Janice, your wishes are shared by many if not all of us. Here's hoping your wishes are granted!

Giving us all a lesson in grand wishing, Lori Thornton shares Dear Santa . . . posted at Smoky Mountain Family Historian. Lori has some grand wishes here, Santa. If you're going to come through for her you better hire an extra crew of elves and put them on the third shift. This gal's wishes will take a lot of work to accomplish! Thanks for sharing, Lori. I applaud your grand thinking and I hope every one of your wishes come true!

Jasia shares her wish in, Jasia's Christmas Wish, posted at Creative Gene. Although she asks for Santa's help it's a message she hopes members of genealogical societies everywhere will take to heart.

Just about at the end of line to see Santa, er... Sinter, Miriam Robbins Midkiff shares her wishes in, Dear Sinterklaas..., posted at AnceStories: The Stories of My Ancestors, saying, "My Christmas...er, St. Nicholas Day...wish list." OK then Sinterklaas. Our Miriam has a simple and humble wish list with just two items. What d'ya say to leaving a little bit of both under her tree, eh? Thanks for sharing your wishes, Miriam!

Terry Thornton shares his wish list with us in, My Christmas List for 2007, posted at The Hill Country of Monroe County Mississippi. Apparently you've already had your hand in seeing to it that Terry gets his wished for items, eh Santa? Well good for you! And good for Terry. He's been very good this year and deserves to have a wonderful Christmas. Thanks for sharing your wishes with us, Terry! Enjoy!

Wrapping things up for us with a list of gift suggestions for your favorite genealogist, Jimmy Kavanagh presents Genealogy Gift Ideas posted at Genealogy Gifts. Jimmy is at it again with good humor and good cheer this holiday season. Prepare to smile!

That concludes this edition of the Carnival of Genealogy. I hope you enjoyed reading about everyone's wishes this holiday season. Here's hoping they all come true!

And now for the Call for Submissions! The theme for the next edition of the COG will be: The New Millennium. Where were you when the year 2000 came around? How did you celebrate the New Year 2000... with friends? family? at a party? in a bunker? What were your thoughts, fears, and feelings about the new millennium? Can you believe it's been 8 years since then? Record your memories now for posterity!

The deadline for submissions will be December 15th. Submit your blog article to the next edition of Carnival of Genealogy using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

(A little head's up... the final COG of the year (deadline January 1st) will be about New Year's Resolutions. So you might want to do some thinking about that between now and then. But please don't submit your articles before December 18th when this next edition is posted. Thank you!)
